DC Smart Home Configurator - Dedicated Switches and Sockets Configurator Connected to an Online Store

DC Smart Home  — a manufacturer and distributor of premium electrical fittings (glass and metal frames, touch switches, sockets, accessories).

Project Goal

Creating a dedicated configurator for sockets and switches with full integration with the PrestaShop store platform, enabling customers to independently design sets, get instant pricing, and quickly purchase the configured product.

• Configuration of sets: choice of colors, materials, number of boxes, and inserts for each box.
• Real-time project preview from two perspectives and changing the background/wall color.
• Automatic configuration pricing with a breakdown of component prices.
• Generating a PDF card with a drawing, list of products, link, and QR code for purchase.
• Adding the configured set to the cart and finalizing the purchase in PrestaShop.
• Saving and sharing configurations (link/QR) for later resumption or consultation.

Project Challenges

1. Modeling complex product relationships

   The interactions between frames, inserts, and boxes require compatibility validation (formats, colors, materials) as well as dynamic selection of compatible options while maintaining a clear UX.

2. Efficient rendering and real-time pricing

   Simultaneous updating of visualizations from two views, changing the color of the wall, and immediate re-pricing required optimization of the frontend and efficient caching of price data.

3. Integration with PrestaShop and the cart

   Mapping configurations to store products/components and generating SKUs/sets had to comply with warehouse logic and promotions while making it easy to add to the cart.

4. Generating documents reflecting the configuration

   Automatically creating PDFs with a drawing, component table, cost estimate, and link and QR code required a consistent template and reliable server rendering.

Collaboration Process

We conducted workshops with the client to define product variants and compatibility rules. Then we prepared UX mock-ups and a visualization prototype. The configurator was prepared as a module for Prestashop using the information contained in the database. We implemented an administrative panel for managing the catalog of elements and a PDF generation template. After end-to-end testing (configuration validation, cart, payments), we launched the solution in production and trained the client's team.
